Bits and Pieces 18

Here is an item on the Consent Calendar of this Tuesday's Rancho Palos Verdes City Council meeting:

3. Grant Application to Develop a Western Avenue Corridor Strategy (Schonborn)

Recommendation: ADOPT RESOLUTION NO. 2010-__, A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RANCHO PALOS VERDES, THEREBY APPROVING THE FILING OF A GRANT APPLICATION THROUGH THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION OF GOVERNMENTS (SCAG) “COMPASS BLUEPRINT DEMONSTRATION PROJECTS” PROGRAM FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF A COMPREHENSIVE CORRIDOR AND STREETSCAPE STRATEGY FOR THE WESTERN AVENUE CORRIDOR.

I am a fan of doing anything to improve the structure, look, and accessibility of Western Avenue, once and possibly still the longest 'Avenue' on the planet.

In Sunday's South Bay Daily Breeze, an article is contained that deals with an upcoming Rolling Hills Estates Planning Commission Hearing regarding a proposed 11-home development at the intersection of Palos Verdes Drive North and Palos Verdes Drive East.

The current proposal up for a vote is not really objected to by local residents and the project has been around since 1985.

Known as Butcher Ranch for the original developer the late Dan Butcher, the current plans are now under the ownership of Mr. Dan Butcher, Jr.

The original plans were for 13 homes with horse trails and equine amenities on the 8.5 acre site. Now only 11 single-family houses are planned for the area on the northeast corner of the well-traveled intersection.

Not many houses are planned however traffic, traffic, and traffic, will be added to an intersection so important to residents, schools, businesses, and first responders.

The Save RPV folks sure produced on heck of a four-page mailer, didn't they?

It's not the DVD Marymount produced and it is not the little mailers Marymount has been sending out several times a week.

Although my name does not appear as a supporter of that group, I have donated money to Save RPV and agree with their positions concerning Measure P, The Marymount Plan.

Fall has fallen onto us in many ways and with far too many drips of water for my liking while I am still building the set for "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers". We need the moisture, cooler temps, and more seasonal weather if there is such a thing in Southern California.

I haven't heard anything new on the Ponte Vista at San Pedro front. I think work continues on the new edition of the Environmental Impact Report. I don't know its expected publishing date yet but I suspect it is still several months away.
