Deceptive Spending

Marymount College filed its mandatory Campaign Finance Report with the Rancho Palos Verdes City Clerk revealing that it has now spent in excess of $1,000,000.00 ($1 million) campaigning to win approval of its Measure P, with a month left to spend more.

When ads state that The Marymount Plan will provide a state-of-the-art-library and athletic center available for use by Rancho Palos Verdes residents but doesn't state those have already been approved, isn't that deceptive advertising?

When Marymount College does not admit that an official of that College signed an affidavit accepting the approval of The Marymount College Facilities Expansion Project, with telling potential voters it did so, is that something you find deceptive?

When Marymount College fails to admit that their own representatives voluntarily removed dorms form consideration by the Planning Commission AND did not bring dorms back for discussions by the City Council, isn't that more deception?

What about the fact that daily trip generation to and from Marymount College would INCREASE by 78% on weekdays and 220% on weekends? How does that square with Marymount's claims that traffic will decrease?

It simply is not believable all the claims coming from Marymount when educated voters know that The Marymount College Facilities Expansion Project will provide EVERYTHING Marymount College representatives came before the City Council for seeking approval for and then receiving UNANIMOUS SUPPORT for The Project from Council members.

The expenditure of at least One Million Dollars looking for support for everything already approved for construction plus a change in zoning, municipal codes, and two residence halls seems to illustrate the sheer desperation from those supporters of The Marymount Plan.

What is far worse to me is that over One Million Dollars has already been spent attempting to acquire the rights to build something I consider would cause safety concerns and real problems that no mitigation could adequately fix.

I am still attempting to gain confirmation on a report from a reliable person who stated that a Marymount College security guard's foot was run over by a driver of a vehicle who happens to be a Marymount College student.

Please vote "No" on Measure P, The Marymount Plan.

Safety. Everyone. Everywhere. Every hour.
