Information About Proposed Changes Over Our Heads

Below is a template for a letter concerning the proposed Class Designation change for Long Beach airport.

Simply put, if the changes are made, more private pilots would fly over the peninsula. More congested airspace would be overhead in Rancho Palos Verdes and other cities and communities in the South Bay.

The skies above our homes, schools, businesses, and recreation areas would be less safe, and that must not happen.

We live in an area where many of our neighbors own or fly small aircraft or fly even larger planes and helicopters. We have residents with incomes to support that and we all have the right to remain as safe as possible, including our residents/pilots and their passengers.

There have been written reports that the change in class is rooted in requests by several Jet Blue pilots who don't seem to like the idea of general aviation aircraft using Long Beach airport without having onboard responders and greater communication with air traffic control.

I do understand the safety issues of airline pilots may have and that needs to be considered.

But prior devastating airline crashes associated with Long Beach airport might not have been avoidable even with the classification change.

Putting more residents at risk, especially with the enormous air traffic at Torrance airport having to adjust to new flying restrictions, is something I feel we all must fight.

Please visit www.palosverdes.com/rpv/ to learn more about the proposed changes and please write you opinions down, using the template below if you wish.

Thank you.
